Choice of crops for the prototype

 

The choice of crops for the prototype was done primarily based on the level of nutrient required for the crops relative to the nutrient content of the Bokashi fertilizer. Studies show that the bokashi tea composition depends on the diversity of the food scraps used for the fermentation process. However, in general, the tea is poor in Nitrogen content.

Since it appears that the bokashi tea has a deficiency in nitrogen, we decided to test two crops with very different nitrogen requirements - tomatoes and strawberries. We also added spinach to the group, because we like it 😀.

The table below shows the concentration of the nutrient solution in ppm relative to the macronutrients of the chosen crops:

By comparing the development of both types of plants the objective was to evaluate in practical terms the effectiveness of Bokashi as fertilizer in plants that have very different nutritional needs.
