Observations

 Week 1

Tomatoes and Spinaches in the bokashi tea solution, diluted 1:200.
Straberries seedlings still to small to be placed in the system.
  • Water color is brown, however there is no smell in it;

  • pH around 6.0 - good sign!
  • Tomatoes and growing fine

  • Spinach presenting flowers earlier than expected - may indicate water stress, too much light or too hot environment, and the roots are starting to get slimy

Week 2

Tomatoes and Spinaches in the bokashi tea solution, diluted 1:200. Water in the conteiner has been replaced, with new bokashi tea.
Straberries seedlings still to small to be placed in the system.

  • Brown water with a microfilm over - sugestion of bacteria growth. However, there is still no smell in it.
  • Spinach presenting light color - a sign of poor absorption of nitrogen, either because the nitrogen content in the bokashi solution is low, or because the slime attached to the roots. Continue presenting flowers, but the roots are growing normally.

  • Tomatoes presenting normal colour and normal growth.

One possible explanation is for the apparent growth of bacteria in the spinach tank could be the aeration of the water. The air pump on spinach tank is running several hourse a day, whereas the pump in the tomatoes tank is running only a few hours a day. This could be a sign that the surplus of oxygen in the water is feeding aerobic bacteria normally present in the bokashi tea.
